Weather Warning

We’re moving to Weather Warning status in the north of Scotland ahead of a period of severe weather over Hogmanay, which will bring strong winds, prolonged spells of rain, and significant snowfall. This move to our Weather Warning status reflects our increased level of preparedness and our latest assessment of this weather’s potential impact over the next few days.

💨 The weather forecast

Heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, will become more widespread later on Monday and into Tuesday. The rain will fall as snow over higher areas. Wind gusts will come from the west and south west, and speeds of up to 60mph will be widespread, with 70mph gusts forecast for more exposed areas. The combination of snowfall and sustained high winds can occasionally have the potential to affect the power lines on the network.

We’ll continue to closely monitor our own forecasts, along with those from the Met Office during this period. The Met Office has issued Yellow and Amber Weather Warnings for wind over the coming days.

👷 How SSEN is responding

We’re activating our well-rehearsed contingency plans and bringing in additional teams to deal with any damage to the network and subsequent faults, which may interrupt customers’ power supplies.

We’ll continue to monitor the weather forecast closely and will issue further updates depending on the forecast.
