Are you a small generator or a battery storage owner?  If so, did you know that you could potentially help to strengthen the electricity network by registering as a flexibility provider?  SSEN Distribution is hosting a flexibility webinar between 11-12 next Friday (4 October),  to help explain their sign-up process in more detail, and encourage future providers to register.

Flexibility services allow distribution network operators (DNOs) to adjust power generation or consumption in specific areas when needed, and are essential for maintaining a stable and efficient energy network, offering a smart solution to meeting the country’s changing electricity demands.

As the DNO for northern Scotland and central southern England, SSEN procures flexibility services from various energy assets across their licence areas such as generators and battery storage units, and demand sources such as aggregated EVs and heat pumps. Their webinar on 4 October is designed to introduce the service to a wider audience and potentially attract new providers, as well as answer any questions from existing ones.

SSEN has recently held their first short-term bidding rounds,  alongside their latest longer-term bidding round, with the aim of both being to  to procure over 265 MW of Flexibility services.  To take part in future rounds,  providers first need to complete the company’s pre-qualification questionnaire (PQQ); while this PQQ is one of the topics set to be discussed at the forthcoming webinar, anyone interested can also sign up in advance of the event on the Electron Connect platform.

Catherine Winning, Flexibility Markets Manager at SSEN, said:
“We’re also aware that not everyone knows how flexibility works, how they can potentially help us, and how easy it is to register as a provider, and so next Friday’s seminar is aimed at ‘demystifying’ the process,  and hopefully encourage more would-be providers to consider completing our pre-qualification questionnaire.”

The flexibility webinar runs next Friday, 4 October, between 11-12 and is free to attend – all you need to do is follow this link to register.
