A number of our team members were among the award winners at SSE Group’s Engineering Growth Hub Awards, which were held in Glasgow this week.

The Engineering Growth Hub exists to ensure graduates who join SSE after their studies are mentored and supported, encouraging them to develop their career with the company for the long-term.

Our Technical Limits team won the award for Engineering Team of the year. This team is at the forefront of finding innovative ways for the network to support ever-greater demand for connections as the popularity of renewables, low carbon technologies, and data-led industries grows.

Michelle MacDonald Sandison, who leads the Technical Limits Programme says:

“We’re so pleased to have won and honoured to have even been shortlisted. The Technical Limits project needed a lot of work across the industry, involving every Distribution and Transmission Network Operator to find a solution to help connect renewable generation and decarbonise the electricity system.

“The awards are an excellent way to recognise our incredibly talented engineering colleagues across SSE Group, and to shine a light on the individuals and projects influencing our industry.”

Distribution’s Elina Bezusko was joint winner of the Progression Award, which recognises progression from entry level engineering roles or apprenticeships routes to outstanding achievements in engineering.

Andrew Roper, who’s SSEN Distribution’s Director of System Operations, and is also the Chairperson of the Engineering Growth Hub, says:

“Congratulations to everyone who was nominated, shortlisted, and who won an award. It was fabulous to see so many engineers and supporting teams together, sharing and showcasing their inspiring work. These awards have been a celebration of the wealth of talent and engineering excellence across SSE.

“The enthusiasm and hard work that went into the entries for these awards are proof positive of the achievements and potential we have within the company to deliver innovative solutions for our customers and employees, and to deliver the infrastructure needed for the net zero electricity revolution.

“The Growth Hub exists to ensure our graduates and engineering team members can strengthen their CVs and maximise their potential.   Chartered engineers are essential if SSE Group is to develop the solutions we need to power the energy transition, and I want to ensure everyone who wants to take this step in their career understands how it’ll benefit them personally, and society more widely.”
