John Shanks, SSEN’s Project Manager, along with colleagues from the project’s main contractor, Keltbray, recently spent the day removing tonnes of earth and levelling the site at Quay Street, clearing the way for the next stage of work – resurfacing the park and installing new play facilities.

When the park is complete, it will make a huge difference in the village, as Angela Ford from Loch Broom Community Council explains:

“Getting the area cleared and levelled means that the whole refurbishment can now go ahead. This is a very important and popular park for the village - it's the main school meeting point for families, and our focus is the importance of outdoor physical activity for children of all ages. The park will also provide a meeting point for parents and carers. We know from recent events how essential socialisation among adults is, especially during our quiet winters and how this can improve mental health."

The importance of the park is also appreciated by Ullapool resident, Lynne MacRae, who said:

“As a local mum I bring my children to the primary school adjacent to the park every day and I am really looking forward to having a nice, new, usable play area suitable for all ages.”

Speaking about the work, John Shanks said:

“We’re always looking for ways to be a good neighbour, and so we’re proud to be supporting the Loch Broom Community Council with their work to refurbish the playpark. Bringing our digger along for the day, as well as the skills required to operate it safely, has made a huge difference to the site at Quay Street and it’s been great to help on such an important local asset for the people of Ullapool.”

Topher Dawson, Chair of Loch Broom Community Council, added:

“The Quay St Playpark site is looking incredibly neat and level and I would like to extend the Community Council’s grateful thanks for your assistance.”
