SSEN Distribution owns and operates the network of substations, underground cables, overhead lines and wooden poles that work together to power over 3.8m homes and businesses across the north of Scotland and central southern England. And with all that infrastructure to look after in such a wide range of locations, there's a huge range of possibilities for anyone considering a role in the electricity industry.
The event at Forres last week saw 400 pupils and 100 parents in attendance, with many of them visiting the SSEN Distribution stand to learn more about the work that goes on day-to-day, and the roles on offer which can lead to a long and varied career.
Shona Horn, Customer Relationship Manager for the region, was one of the SSEN Distribution team at Forres last week, and will also be in attendance at Elgin. She said:
“It was really encouraging to meet so many young people interested in a career with us at the last week’s event in Forres, and we’re hoping to meet even more when we go to Elgin - especially any girls who are considering a role in the electricity industry.
“I’ve been with SSEN for 26 years now and really enjoy my job – working out of the Elgin Depot, where so many different teams are based, means that I get to see a wide range of the tasks we do on a daily basis. I’m working alongside men and women who specialise in the underground cables, overhead lines and substations that power our communities, and I’d encourage anyone thinking about a career in the electricity industry to come along to our stand to learn more about the exciting prospects on offer.”
