Yellow Weather Alert

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution is moving to Yellow Alert status ahead of a period of high winds and snow forecast to move across the north of Scotland tomorrow.

The combination of these could result in damage and impacts to the network on higher ground.  While there is a possibility of disruption across the north of Scotland, the likelihood is greater in Perthshire, Angus, Aberdeenshire, Argyll, Caithness, Orkney and Shetland the north west Highlands and the Moray Firth.

SSEN has been monitoring the unsettled weather across the festive period, and we’re now activating our well-rehearsed contingency plans, bringing in additional teams to deal with any damage to the network and subsequent faults, which may impact customers’ power supplies.

Today, we are sending text messages to tens of thousands of our Priority Service Register customers to provide them with tailored guidance ahead of tomorrow’s weather.

With the potential for strong winds and snow to impact the network, we’d like to remind customers that if they come across any damaged equipment, not to touch it and instead report it to us directly by calling 105, or via the Power Track website or app, and engineers will investigate as soon as possible.

Customers are also being encouraged to be prepared for the possibility of disruption to supplies by saving the emergency power cut number - '105' - to a mobile phone to report any loss of supply or damage to the electricity network.

Customers are eligible for our Priority Services Register (PSR) if they:

  • Are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Have a disability
  • Live with children under five
  • Are blind or partially-sighted
  • Have a chronic illness
  • Use medical equipment/aids reliant on electricity
  • Are over 60.
