SSEN Distribution owns and operates the cables, substations and overhead lines that power homes and businesses across the north of Scotland, and its teams in the CCC are on hand 24/7 to answer calls from customers who’ve dialled 105 - the national electricity emergency number.
With the majority of the CCC team on shifts over the course of Storm Babet, its impact was something that really hit home in the office after speaking with customers who had been directly affected.
Mark Wells is Performance Manager at the CCC, and explains more about the fundraiser:
“As most of us were actually in here working during Storm Babet, we were only too aware of the impact the weather was having on our customers in Brechin at the time. Also, in the days after the actual storm some of our team worked with operational colleagues in the town, going door-to-door to check on customers who had been badly hit by the flooding.
“From speaking with these customers, it soon became clear that some people had lost all their belongings, and so we wanted to do something for the community to let them know we’ve been thinking of them.
“We’re a really close-knit team in the CCC and whenever there’s a fundraiser or charity event we do our best to support the good cause, whether that’s by donating prizes, buying raffle tickets or getting out the baking trays, and we hope that the money we’ve raised, along with other donations from the wider community, will help the people of Brechin as they begin to repair their homes and rebuild their lives after the flooding.”
