Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) paid a visit to the latest "Pow Wow" gathering of Moray's 'Be Active Life Long' (BALL) groups to raise awareness of the free help and support that is available through its Priority Services Register (PSR).

The BALL philosophy is all about keeping fit, healthy and active in older age whilst staying connected to their community. Its members do this by meeting up for a wide range of social and physical activities involving singing, games, music, gentle exercise and general companionship. With over 800 people accessing 20BALLgroups across Moray, the Pow Wow learning gatherings are a great way to discuss relevant topics such as resilience.

This learning session saw 36members from 16 BALL groups get together in Elgin for an informative and entertaining morning of knowledge-sharing, games and coffee, with guest speaker Shona Horn, SSEN Customer Relationship Manager giving a talk on the benefits of the PSR and general advice about what to do on the rare occasions there is a power cut.

Shona was delighted with the response and feedback she got from the members:

"One of our goals is to continually look at new ways to engage with our customers, and in particular those who could benefit from the free help that is on offer with our Priority Services Register.

"When I got the invite from Carmen and theBALLgroup I knew straightaway that it was an event I couldn't miss, as we really want to spread the word and raise awareness with theBALLgroup members on how we can support them during a power cut, as well as explaining more about our partnership with Home Energy Scotland to help our customers keep warm and save money all year round. I also really enjoyed the chance to hear the members' feedback on the work our teams are doing every day across the region."

Carmen Gillies is the Community Wellbeing Development Officer at Moray Council, and explains more about the link-up with SSEN:

"We know that people need to be resilient, and so working with SSEN is a great way of getting the resilience message out there to all ourBALLgroups, for example by signing up for the Priority Services Register or even something as simple as adding the 105 power cut number to your mobile phone or list of handy contacts at home."
